Not really. It helped of course, but, to quote a comment made at the time "God blew, and they were scattered". A great storm sprang up and the armada was blown wildy off course and many ships were wrecked. The Spanish commander, the Duke of Medina Sidonia, was not an experienced seaman and didn't want to be there at all.
