Is there a sewage system in Venice?

Venice is a city in Italy. It is nicknamed "City of Water" due to the fact that the city is sinking, but people just continued to build their home on top of the sunken sections. I am curious as to where do their flushed excrements lead to, if not directly into the body of water surrounding the city?

Answer on Is there a sewage system in Venice?

There are several areas to the City of Venice. The parts not surrounded by water mostly have sewage service. The old section you speak about, does discharge directly into the canals.
