What food and drink can you have and not have when you are on a diet?

Trying to loss 40lbs in 7-8 months, i'm 155lbs trying to get to 115-120lbs and i need a list of things i can and can not have on a diet. thank you so much for your help.

As a general rule,

replace soda with water (or add more water if you don't drink soda)
replace juice with milk
eat more fruits and veggies (fruit source bars have 2-3 servings of fruit if you like those)
replace chocolate/chips/candies with fruit
ALWAYS eat breakfast!
DRINK LOTS OF WATER!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
