Answer on How did warfare contribute to the unification of Italy in the nineteenth century?

Much of Italian unification was accomplished by warfare, with some assistance from France. The unification was mostly complete by 1861. Sardinia was taken from Austria for Italy by France in 1859. Italy and Prussia were allies against Austria in the seven week Austro-Prussian War (1866) which gained territory for Italy. The Franco-Prussian War (1870-1) occurred later. Italy would later go to war against Austria again in 1915.
